Contact Lenses for Unique eyes

Every patient’s vision and eye health situation is unique—there is no one-size-fits-all solution for contact lenses. We carry a wide range of specialty contact lenses for this reason.

In the past, contact lenses weren’t an option for some patients, but advancements in contact lens technology make it possible for almost everyone to enjoy crisp and comfortable vision. Our knowledge and expertise help us find the right contact lenses for your vision needs. Visit our Optometrists in Colorado Springs and see our available specialty lenses.

What Are Specialty Contact Lenses?

Traditional contact lenses like rigid gas permeable lenses and soft contacts aren’t ideal for every patient. Conditions like myopia, astigmatism, keratoconus, or dry eyes can make it harder to wear contact lenses comfortably. When these lenses don’t offer you the comfort and clarity you need, specialty lenses can help.

Types of Specialty Contact Lenses

Traditional contact lenses may not meet your needs when it comes to contacts. However, this shouldn’t stop you from wearing contact lenses if that’s your goal. There are several specialty contact lenses available, depending on your vision needs.

We offer several specialty contact lenses at Bettner Vision for patients with unique eyes, including:

Corneal refractive therapy (CRT) contact lenses, like Paragon CRT contact lenses, assist during orthokeratology (ortho-k) treatment. They gently reshape the cornea while you sleep to help correct your refractive error. You can enjoy clear vision throughout the day without the need for glasses or contacts.

These lenses can be beneficial for managing myopia progression in some children, helping prevent their prescription from worsening. Paragon CRT lenses are the first FDA-approved ortho-k lenses for extended overnight wear.

Hybrid contact lenses feature a rigid gas permeable center with a soft skirt surrounding the center. Traditional rigid gas permeable lenses can be uncomfortable for some people, making them hard to wear. Hybrid lenses solve this problem by combining the crisp vision of rigid lenses with the comfort of soft contact lenses.

We offer the Duette hybrid lens at our practice—a lens ideal for patients with irregular-shaped corneas and some amount of astigmatism.

Multifocal contact lenses have more than one prescription per lens, providing clear vision from near and far distances. They’re ideal lenses if you have presbyopia, which affects your close-up vision as you age.

Scleral lenses are large-diameter contacts that vault over your cornea and rest on the sclera, the white of your eye. They are ideal if you have a condition like astigmatism, keratoconus, or dry eyes. Learn more about these lenses by visiting our Keratoconus and Scleral Lens Institute page.

Toric contact lenses are ideal if you have astigmatism. These lenses are unique, featuring different prescriptions along the horizontal and vertical axes of the lens. Depending on your needs, they can come in a soft or rigid material.

Because toric lenses have different prescriptions throughout the lens, they need to stay in place to keep your vision clear. To help with this, they feature a weighted bottom to prevent the lenses from shifting.
